Wrapped Oranges, 1889
Oil on canvas
it has been something like seven years since i first saw this painting at the Amon Carter museum. i loved it so much that i cannot forget it. when one stands in front of this painting it looks as though one can tap the fingernails on the table that the oranges sit on, i love it. love it!
Top Chef / Season 3
Watching Top Chef on Bravo a few weeks agao (season 3 marathon) has opened my eyes to how little that I know about food and cooking. There are so many good things to eat…
I want to learn more!!!!!!!!!!!!
Church
I mentioned yesterday being at Church but made no post about the experience and this is because I was trying to let myself calm down before I made too many comments here that may have been misunderstood. I think that I can be fair now.
It was our second time at this Church. The Pastor was there this time and the teaching was good. There are two complaints that I will make though. First, the worship team was really bad, distractingly so. Luke thought it was the ladies in front of us so he did not say anything. It was on the way to the car that we talked about it. Luke’s theory was that maybe they rotate teams and some are better than others and I like that, the idea of giving more than the same six people a chance to learn and experience leading Worship, but is was difficult to take although it is definitely not a deal breaker.
Second, the last time at this C’ we sat in the family room that is right up front with a glass wall into the sanctuary and we liked that it was not in back of the Church hidden away with a speaker on the wall but we did wonder if we were allowed to sit in the main sanctuary with the baby.
This time around (again sitting in the family room as it is the first room that you see when you enter the main building) I spotted a note in the bulletin asking that any children fourth grade and younger not in Sunday school or nursery are asked to sit in the family room with parents. We are not allowed in the main sanctuary with Lucas. Weird.
Anyway, I will ask why, maybe there is some really good reason. We will try another Church next week. Even if all was wonderful there we would take the time to try out a few other places. We keep saying to one another that “no church is going to be perfect”. I think we believe it but unrealistic expectations do tend to run in the family. I just want us to find a home.
Random note:
The ‘Enter the Worship Circle’ CD’s were popular when I was in Asia. Maybe it was just our base but we often used their songs in Worship so it makes sense to me that listening to them now brings back a complicated pain. It is bitter sweet. I am praying for you guys in Asia and the peoples effected by recent events.
Clinging to Him today,
Cheers~
missing friends
We saw you yesterday, R and C.
It was a lovely Sunday afternoon and you were sitting at a table three down from ours. R you had a full beard but much else looked the same as far as style, height, hair color and the like.
Elena,
we saw you yesterday too! Jason (I’m sorry) you were not there but maybe in a way that is not bad (or really gross) it was you in the stroller outside. At church, in the “family room” ten chairs away from us there was a little brown girl about four years old or so with curled pig tails and a sundress.
About half way through service she made her way to us and climbed up on the chair in front of mine and said hi to Lucas who was sitting in my lap and suddenly he is shy and smiley! She had little flower earrings and was holding a bag of sugary cereal in her hands and said, “My name is Elena” and then pointing to the man at the end of her isle said, “That’s my dad, my mom is outside” and then “My name is Elena, that’s my dad, brother is not here he is outside in the stroller.”
We are thinking of you all and we have smiles on our faces.
